We could support that maps are representations that describe relationships. Traditionally, relationships between a territory and the phenomena within it, or relationships between that territory and the others. But this is only a generalization and a reduccionist way to understand maps and, above all, the action of mapping. The huge number of expressions that one can study under these names overcome the idea of map as a transcription of a real territory.Actually, post-modern thought has separated, in a way, map and territory. Today it is not possible to understand maps as a mirror of reality but a reality in itself. At this point is when contemporary artistic practice loves maps and mapping. Thus, it begins to appear more and more works and projects that we finally have called mapping. We have selected five projects for Carte Blanche that show the huge potentialities offered in the link between cartography and art offers.
