Positive Critical Imagination is part of a more general curatorial project that is based on promoting the research and the publication of the ‘positive critical potentials' that can be found in the networks which connect today's society. In our opinion the term ‘positive critical potentials' can be understood as those social agents that own the capacity for critical action, and most importantly, for positive critical action. In this video season we try to concentrate on change, on the moment when the social power manages to interrupt oppression in order to obtain other more liberated alternatives.
The project that take place at Edinburgh Art Festival shows how these artistic practices are helping the growth of new social forms with its creativity and imaginative capacities. These practices have made a firm decision to be part of the invention of a new world. Artist’s skills come into use here through the research of creative solutions that point outside of the art world and become part of the fabric of society. The division of specialities, a hangover from modernity, leaves gaps that those trained in conventional academic specialisations cannot fill. Here is where artists can act contributing creative alternatives, essaying new forms, thinking in a different way, transversely, proposing new solutions based on interdisciplinary research.
